H.W.#8

1)According to Hobbes it was better to live under the rule of an absolute monarchy. Hobbs said that if the ruler had absolute it would be a world more about peace, thoughtful and geneous world. He thought that humans are to corrupt and selfish and need to be under control by one ruler that has absolute power.

1)The social contract reflects the influence of the enlightment ideas.
2)Religous freedom because people should be able to believe in what they want to believe in. Freedom of thought and expression because no one should to do something they dont want to do.
1)enlightment-this was the age of reason,started by two english politicians Thomas hobbes and John locke.
2)social contract-an agreement where people gave up their rights to a strong ruler and in exchange got law and order.
3)john locke-an english politician who belived that human nature wasnt such a bad thing and belived people could change.
4)natural rights-life,liberty,property.
5)philosophe-the social critics of the enlightment in france
5)voltaire-a philosopher who came up with the idea of freedom of religion,expression and thought.
6)Montesquieu-An influential French writer that called the division of power among different branches, separation of powers.

8)Mary Wollstonecraft-a woman who fought for the freedom and equality rights of all women.

Ideas: Had a part in the Enlightenment where he wrote some key ideas. Wrote all of his ideas in his book called the Leviathan, and gave the ideas for the social contract.

Ideas: He published more than 70 books on political essays, philosophy, history, and even more.

Ideas: He devoted himself to the study of political liberty.

Ideas: He helped people get individual freedom.

Ideas: The justice system.

Ideas: Women rights.

Gelileo Galilei is a italian scientist who supported the heocentric theory. He live from 1564 to 1642. He used astronomy. Galileo had many accomplishments, one of his accomplishments was to build the best telescope. His other accomplishment was to prove copernicus' theory. He also published a book called dialouge of the tides that explained his theory. At fist the church didnt mind him than they told him to say that he was lying and his punishment was to be under house arrest.

Tycho Brahe was a Danish nobleman known for his accurate and comprehensive astrology who lived from 1546 to 1601. He used astrology. His two major accomplishments were to discover that comets go in a elleotical path and that the stars exploded to create a supernova. He published a book called De nova stella. He was punished by getting baned from denmark.

1)Scientific Revolution-A new form of thinking about the new world

Nicoulas Copernicus-A astronomer that believed that everything orbited around the sun.

Heliocentric Theory-Believes that the sun was in the center.

Johannes Kepler-Describes the orbits of Earth and the planets around the Sun.

Galileo Galilei-Discovered the law of pendulum.

Scientific Method-Procedure for gathering and testing ideeas.

Francis Bacon-Made the scientific method and disagreed with Aristotle.

Rene Descrates-Developed analtical geometry.

Isaac Newton-Was certain that all physical objects were affected equally by the same
forces.

2)There was new math and science which was developed.
People started to test Aristotle's theories.
People began to doubt the churche's theories.
People began to prove common sense wrong.
People became intrested in math and science and made new discoveries.

H.W. # 4

1)The Cannon law was a law submited by the church. The cannon law was a law that made each person equal under marriage and religious practices. It did not matter if you where a king or a midieval christian or a peasant. For example not only must I have to follow the laws, cops as well must follow the laws and we all get the same punishment if we dont.
2)If anyone would disobey the cannon law they would face a puishment. A king would get exvommunication. Excommunication is when you are banished from the church. If the king kept on disobeying the pope the king would get a worse consequence, he would get the interdect. The interdect is when many religous sacraments or religious services would not be allowed to be practied on that kings land. So the people of that land would believe that they would go to hell. Like when a teacher tells you to bequiet and you keep on talking you will then get sent to the dean.
